My friend Allan Hunkin, who co-manages the Take-Charge Living group on Facebook, posted this provocative question:
Subject: What is your favorite addiction?
I know that is a provocative question but don’t be embarrassed. We all have addictions and we are either getting out ahead of them or we’re not depending upon our understanding and awareness of what’s really going on.
Booze, Food, TV, Sex, Drugs, Facebook, Anger, Chocolate, Worry… what are your favorites? Sugar, Social Boozing and Worry Eating are mine.
The Take-Charge Living website, as well as the Facebook group, the book, and the new CD of the same name, is all about helping you change any behavior that is either messing up your life or at the very least keeping you from living as fulfilling a life as possible. Allan calls them addictions. Whatever you call them, the challenge is how to overcome your resistance to change, and start behaving in new ways.
Let's hear from you about your "addictions". Have you tried to change? What works and what doesn't? Sharing experiences is a real help in supporting one another.
Best,
Marion Jacobs, Ph.D.

Great topic. I wouldn't call my addiction "my favorite", but an addiction nonetheless. I am an alcoholic and just received a 2nd DUI in May (my 1st was in 2003). When I got my 1st DUI, I vowed to never go through the same deal again. I felt that the risk was too great and the time and troubles had changed me. I was sober for 8 months but succumbed to the urge. Looking back now, I realize that I hadn't taken charge of myself or my life. I'm still a work in progress and continue to try to fix or work through things that might help me change my desires to drink.
